Parents in Suffolk have launched a petition urging school leaders in the county not to add an extra week off during the Autumn half term.

The Unity School Partnership, which manages more than 30 schools in Suffolk, announced plans to extend the school day by 10 minutes to enable this.

Those against the plans say it'll place a huge financial and mental burden on families.

Laura Harrison, from Haverhill is among those who've signed the petition.

She explained her reason for signing in a comment under the petition: "2 weeks half term in Oct 'sold' to parents with the promise of cheaper holidays... Never mind the effect on working parents who then need to try and stretch holiday even further and/or pay for an extra weeks child care.

"Those with older siblings in a different school have no benefit at all! With the staggered holidays across schools over the Easter holidays it had made no difference to cost."

Unity says the majority of parents are in favour of the proposals.
