Man arrested after people spot woman being assaulted and intervene in Newmarket

A man's been arrested after people spotted a woman being sexually assaulted in Newmarket and stepped in to help.
Police say it happened in the early hours of Sunday 30th January on the High Street in the town.
Officers were called at 5.50am to reports of a woman being assaulted by a man.
They say it's understood a number of members of the public saw what was happening and intervened, and as a result the suspect, a man in his 40s, was injured and taken to hospital for treatment.
He has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape.
The victim in her 20s, was treated at the scene by paramedics and is being supported by specially trained officers.
Anyone who saw what happened, or was in the area at the time of the attack, is being asked to contact police.
