The 11th Ipswich Scout Group are pleased to announce a new lifesaving defibrillator is now available for community use at its Headquarters on Chesterfield Drive in the Castle Hill area of Ipswich.

The device, which delivers an electric current to restart the heart when someone is in cardiac arrest, has been placed in a prominent position by the main entrance and is available for the public to use.

The device is designed to be used by someone with no medical training, with an in-built speaker giving simple step-by-step instructions to operate.

Easily spotted from the road, the fully automatic defibrillator is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Registration of the machine with the East of England Ambulance Service means members of the public will be notified of the location and code to unlock the defibrillator cabinet when making a 999 call.

The defibrillator, cabinet and consumables cost in the region of £2,000.00 and was made possible by Scout Group fundraising activity and generous donations from Suffolk County Councillor David Goldsmith’s Locality Budget, Ashcroft Christian Fellowship, East of England Coop, Highfield Nursery School Children’s Centre & Daycare and The Chesterfield Drive Practice.

Ollie Arthur, Executive Committee Member of the charity, said:

"Defibrillators save lives, so we’re delighted to give back to our community by providing this lifesaving equipment. We’re now letting the community know it’s here; so that if it’s ever needed, people know where to access it. At Scouts, we prepare young people with skills for life, with first aid training featuring as part of the fun and adventurous activities we offer our members"
