Over £50,000 has been raised for hopsitals in Colchester and Ipswich, after a charity hike between the two on Sunday.

Around 300 people set off on the 21 mile route as part of the Hospital Hero Hike.

The journey took in parts of the Essex and Suffolk countryside, going via Dedham, East Bergholt and Bentley.

It took around 9 hours for the participants to complete the route.

The charity event was organised by the Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity, which helps to improve patient care at facilities run by the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

The cash will be used to fund additional equipment for patients being treated in Ipswich and Colchester, as well as at other hopsital sites run by the health authority.

Charity bosses say they've been 'overwhelmed' by the generosity of local people, with donations still coming in.
