Ipswich man jailed for over 20 years after teenager paralysed in shooting
A 16 year old was left paralysed after being shot in the neck in Borehamwood in August 2020.
An Ipswich man has been jailed for over 20 years for his involvement in the shooting of a 16 year old boy in Hertfordshire.
24 year old Sean Price, of Rushmere Road, was found guilty of being in possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life in connection with the incident,
Police were called to Cranes Way in Borehamwood at 10.50pm on Tuesday 4 August 2020 following reports of a person being found with a gunshot wound.
Police, including armed response officers, and the East of England Ambulance Service attended and discovered a 16 year old boy who had been shot in the neck.
The boy’s injuries resulted in him being paralysed from the waist down, with restricted mobility from the neck down. He was hospitalised for ten months.
Following investigations by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, Sean Price, aged 24 of Rushmere Road, Ipswich, was arrested on Wednesday 12 August.
He was subsequently charged with attempted murder, possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice. He denied all the charges.
Following a trial at St Albans Crown Court in October 2021, Price was found guilty of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life, and not guilty of attempted murder or conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
On Friday (21 January) at Croydon Crown Court, Price was sentenced for:
- Possession of a Firearm with Intent to Endanger Life - 21 years
- Possession of a Firearm - 6 years (to run concurrently)
- Possession of an Offensive Weapon (a flick knife) - 12 months (to run concurrently)
- Possession of Cocaine - 7 days (to run concurrently)
In addition to the 21 year sentence, the Court considered that Price was a “dangerous offender” under the provisions of Chapter 5 of the Criminal Justice Act 2003, so passed an extended sentence of four years to run consecutively. This means that Price’s total sentence is 25 years imprisonment.
Detective Inspector Mark Butler, of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, who led the investigation, said: “Unlawful possession of a firearm will always be treated very seriously, given the danger to the public, particularly so when firearms are discharged in a public place. In this very serious case, the young victim was seriously injured, having been shot in the neck.
“Unlawful possession and discharge of firearms will not be tolerated and we will do all we can to investigate any incident like this and bring offenders to justice. The sentence imposed highlights that the court recognised the seriousness of the offending.
“I would like to thank everyone who supported this investigation as the outcome came following a lot of hard work and tenacity from all the individuals involved, including key contributions from partner agencies.”
On Thursday (20 January) two other people were also sentenced in relation to the incident.
