A man’s been jailed for over a year for burglary and theft of a car in Gisleham.

Sullivan Lee, aged 22 and of no fixed abode was jailed at Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday 13 March for 20 months.

It follows an incident that took place in the early hours of on 3 June 2023, where a small window of a porch at a property at Gisleham was smashed and the house-keys and vehicle keys were removed with the victim’s VW Golf, stolen from the property’s driveway.

Lee, who pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing, was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment for the burglary dwelling, with a concurrent term of six months jail for the car theft.

Damage caused to the vehicle’s engine and the engine's workings by the manner of Lee’s driving meant the vehicle had to be written off. Enquiries tracked the vehicle into Norfolk before it was eventually located in Great Barford in Bedfordshire.

DNA swabs from the driver controls linked Lee to it. Further enquiries established the vehicle had been driven on the A146 at Loddon at 95 mph. He was subsequently charged in December 2023.

Det Constable Edward Vincent said: “The theft of the vehicle caused the victim great distress and upheaval as she was using this car as part of her work and was reliant on it for getting from client to client. Now justice has been served Lee will now have plenty of time to reflect on his actions.”
