Man jailed after couple threatened in their own home during Bury St Edmunds burglary
A couple in their 70s were threatened with knives during the incident
A man has been jailed for 11 years in connection with a burglary in Bury St Edmunds, during which an elderly couple were threatened with knives.
32 year old Jordan Carr will also spend four years on extended licence after admitting to aggravated burglary.
He was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court last Thursday (February 17).
The charges were in connection to a break-in at a house on Norman Road in Bury St Edmunds on 11 August 2018.
Two victims, a man and a woman in their 70s, were watching TV in separate rooms of a bungalow when they were confronted by two men, who entered their house through the back door.
Both were wearing balaclavas. One of the men held a knife to the throat of the male victim and pushed him to the floor when he tried to grab something to defend himseld.
The other suspect cut the phoneline in the hallway of the home, before threatening the female victim with a blade.
She have him money and was forced to hand over jewellery, with the suspect threatening to cut her fingers off if she didn't comply.
The two then left the bungalow. The victims told neighbours to call the police.
The following day, police arrested Carr at an address in Lancaster Avenue along with a another man and a woman.
He was found to have tobacco belonging to the male victim, while a wedding ring belonging to the female victim was found stuffed down the side of a sofa.
A 46 year old, who was also arrested in connection with the burglary, was found not guilty after a trial in December.
Carr is already serving a five year sentence for robbery.
