A 23 year old man has been jailed after a crash in Ipswich, which left an 11 year old girl seriously injuried.

Adam Darbous, of Cecil Road, admitted to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and possession with intent to supply class B drugs.

He failed to stop for police on London Road on Thursday February 3 and drove at speeds of up to 60mph in his black BMW in an attempt to escape.

He then hit a parked Daihatsu Sirion containing a family of four on Burlington Road.

An 11-year-old girl, inside the parked car, sustained a serious, life changing head injury. Her parents and younger brother also sustained minor injuries.

Darbous fled the scene and cannabis was later found in his car.

He handed himself into police the following day and has now been charged a 24 month prison sentence, which has been cut to 14 months after he decided to plead guilty.

He has been disqualified from driving for 5 years and will have to sit an extended retest.

Detective Chief Inspector Chris Hinitt said: “It is clear from the manner of his driving that Darbous was attempting to evade police due to the cannabis within his vehicle.

“This was a horrific incident for the family injured as a result of his deplorable actions. The young girl is still suffering as a result of this collision, having sustained a significant head injury which is likely to impact her for the rest of her life.

“While Darbous’ guilty plea will not turn back time, I hope it brings some comfort to the family that he has been held to account for his actions.

"His sentence should also serve as a warning to others who decide to drive recklessly of the devastating impact and subsequent consequences it can have.”
