A 23-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following an incident in Pinewood at the weekend.

Officers were called to Admiral Road just before 4.55pm on Saturday 7 December, to reports of a burglary during which a woman sustained stab wounds.

The victim reported that she was upstairs at her home address when she heard a noise and went to investigate, at which point she discovered an unknown male within the premises. The victim was stabbed after confronting the intruder before he then fled in the direction of Ellenbrook Park.

The woman, who is aged in her 40s, was taken to hospital where she was treated for her injuries and subsequently discharged later that night.

A knife was later recovered close to the location of the incident.

Police were also investigating a report of an attempted robbery in Ellenbrook Park a short time prior to the attack in Admiral Road. However, after investigating this allegation detectives do not believe this to have taken place as reported.

Yesterday, Sunday 8 December, police arrested a man in connection with the attack on the woman in Admiral Road. He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and has subsequently been charged with four offences as follows:

Elliott Mallett, of Hawthorn Drive, Ipswich, charged with:

  • Attempted murder
  • Aggravated burglary with intent
  • Possession an offensive weapon (a knuckle duster) in a private place
  • Possession of a controlled drug of Class B

Mallett has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Tuesday 10 December.
