Lowestoft company provide goalposts for Qatar World Cup
It's the first time they've provided the posts for a FIFA World Cup
A company from Lowestoft has supplied goalposts to every stadium hosting games at the Qatar World Cup.
Harrod Sport were chosen to supply the FIFA approved frames for the tournament back in 2019.
While they've made posts for Olympic games, the Euro's championships and commonwealth games before, this is first time they've made them for a Football World Cup.
"This being our first World Cup, we're super excited!"
Kevin Utton is their director of sports sales & marketing.
He told us how this all came about:
"We have been manufacturing sports equipment since 1954 but with this being our first World Cup, we're super excited! It came about in 2019 when the tender came out and we put our names forward. The specification of what they wanted clearly matched with what we were trying to do."
"We're going to be sending product out there for another five years."
"We are obviously looking ahead to things like the next Olympic games for things like Hockey and Rugby. We have got the next Rugby World Cup, which is in France, so we're talking to them at the moment. Any major tournament that needs a high-specification product then we're normally at the forefront of talks. We'll put our hat in the ring to see how we get on".
"FIFA and match regulations mean that you can't have any advertising within one metre of the pitch, so nothing itself can go on the goals and all our labels have been stripped off them. I can clearly tell from knowing our product really well, but other than that just take our word for it. They will look the part and the faith of knowing that they will have a really high-standard goal is what you're looking for."
"It's been a pretty good process, well run and we managed to get everything out there on time. I know there's going to be some legacy post this World Cup, I believe there is a five-year plan. So, I imagine we're going to be sending product out there for another five years while they put their post-game legacy in place."
How did England do and when do they play next?
England beat Iran 6-2 in their first game of the tournament.
The Lions face the USA next on Friday, where we might catch a glimpse of Norwich City's Josh Sargent playing against England.
Their final group stage game is against Wales on November 29th, and it starts at 7pm.
