Lockdown anniversary message for East Suffolk
The council has issued an open letter
In an open letter, the Leader and Chairman of East Suffolk Council have paid tribute to those who have lost their lives in the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as recognising the huge efforts made by East Suffolk communities over the last year.
In the letter, the Leader of East Suffolk Council, Cllr Steve Gallant and Chairman Cllr Keith Robinson said:
"Tuesday 23 March marks exactly a year since the UK entered its first lockdown as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. No-one could have imagined that we would be here, 12 months later, still suffering greatly from the impacts of the virus and while we are all of course focused on a return to normality, it is hugely important that we take some time to reflect and to think of those who have been most affected by what has happened.
"Our thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones, those who have suffered considerable illness and those who have worked incredibly hard to support us all during this unprecedented period.
"Here in East Suffolk, many thousands of people have been affected one way or another, however we are incredibly proud of the efforts of council staff and volunteers who have delivered so much to so many and helped to ensure that our essential services can continue despite the obstacles placed in our path.
"Sometimes it has felt that this journey is never going to end, however the roll-out of the vaccine and the wide availability of community testing brings us all hope and we must continue to do all we can to follow the guidelines which will help us through the roadmap out of lockdown."
