Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna praised a 'dominant' display from his players yesterday, as the Tractor Boys beat Shrewsbury 2 - 0 at home.

George Hirst opened the scoring for Town just 15 minutes into the first half, with his goal being the 6000th in Ipswich Town history.

Massimo Luongo added to Town's total in the 51st minute - his first goal since rejoining the squad at the start of this year.

The Tractor Boys remain 3rd in League One, with Plymouth Argyle winning against Forest Green to shore up their position in 2nd.

Speaking to the ITFC website after the match, McKenna said: "We showed different attributes to the performance because today we knew we would have a lot of possession, but we needed to create chances and break them down.

"The challenge against us was balls coming into the box and we stood up to it well.

"The first goal came from being brave and bright in the build-up. We worked the ball through the pitch quickly, and again that starts with Christian. We made it look like a simple goal but it isn't.

"We probably could have had another goal or two, but we created a good amount of chances and it was good for Mass Massimo Luongo to get into that area and score the second as well.

"We don't want to give everything away, but Mass is definitely showing that he can arrive in those areas. Overall he is showing what a good footballer he is.

"The game is never done when you're two goals ahead, so we did want a third goal, but we were committed and organised.

"I think it would have taken a bit of misfortune for them to score, but we were still pleased to hear the final whistle and it was a job well done."
