The various exhibitions and collections and Ipswich Museum are being placed into storage, ahead of refurbishment work
Work to clean and pack away the collections and exhibitions at Ipswich Museum has reached the halfway point, ahead of major refurbishment work.
The museum has been closed since October to allow the items on display to be carefully cleaned and placed into storage.
The attraction is home to around 200,000 individual historical artefacts.
Renovation work on the Grade II listed building is due to start over the summer.
£8.7m is being spent on the project, which will create new gallery space in the building, as well as a brand new cafe.
The museum's famous mammoth 'Wool-I-Am' will take centre stage in a new gallery as part of the project.
Councillor Carole Jones, of Ipswich Borough Council, said:
“It’s amazing to see all the fantastic work the museum team are doing.
"The museum has so many precious and unique items which require specialist storage and protection before we can start work to carefully restore the building, so emptying the Museum is a complex and challenging process.
"It’s so important that delicate exhibits are carefully managed and protected.
I’d like to thank the hard-working team at the museum for all they are doing to protect the valuable contents of Ipswich Museum.”
