Ipswich motorcycle thief sentenced
He's avoided jail but will have to pay compensation
A 23-year-old man has been sentenced in connection with a series of motorcycle thefts in Ipswich.
Michael Rzasa, 23, of Norwich Road, appeared at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 21 April, after he pleaded guilty to five counts of theft of a motor vehicle. He was sentenced to 18 weeks' imprisonment, suspended for 12-months.
He was also ordered to pay a total of £3,083.03 in compensation and must carry out a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement.
Officers from the Operation Shere team carried out a number of enquiries in connection with the series and Rzasa was arrested on Tuesday 16 February.
He was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning and was later charged with five offences.
The sentence follows an incident that occurred on Wednesday 30 January at an address in Weavers Close.
At some point between 3.30am and 3.50am, a Honda motorcycle was stolen from the address but following a number of enquiries, the motorcycle was subsequently found at another location in the town on Tuesday 16 February.
A 16-year-old teenage boy was also arrested in connection with the incident at the same tme and was later charged with four counts of theft of a motor vehicle.
Officers then made a further arrest on Wednesday 17 February, after a motorcycle was stolen from an address in Henslow Road on Sunday 7 February.
Another 16-year-old teenage boy was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle in relation to two separate incidents and he was subsequently charged with four counts of theft of a motor vehicle.
Both teenage boys appeared at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on Tuesday 30 March, where they pleaded not guilty. They are next due to appear at court on Tuesday 3 August.
