The Mayor of Ipswich has resigned her post.

Jan Parry quit over the weekend, saying it was down to personal and family circumstances changing.

She's also quit her role as a Borough Councillor, with a by-election due to be held in May.

She submitted her letter of resignation to Russell Williams, Chief Executive of Ipswich Borough Council:

Dear Mr Williams

I write to advise you that with regret but after a great deal of consideration I have decided that I must step down from my duties as Mayor of Ipswich and as a Borough Councillor for Holywells Ward.

My personal and family circumstances are changing and I will no longer be able to fulfil my commitments in these roles and give them the necessary time.

I will miss the work. It has been a privilege and honour to be elected as local councillor and then Mayor and I must thank the residents of Holywells for electing me and IBC for supporting me to serve my residents and the town. I have met so many wonderful people across Ipswich, all serving the community and all connected by their passion and integrity.

I am sorry to leave prematurely and I wish everyone at IBC and all the new people coming forward top stand for public office in Ipswich the very best for the future.

Yours

Jan Parry
