Ipswich Borough Council has issued a warning to motorists as a town-wide crackdown on illegal parking continues.

Since introducing new rules in March 2021 213 cars have been clamped across the borough.

Of those, 35 have been towed away by the council. 19 have been disposed of by authorities.

A number of vehicles seized by council authorities were either incorrectly registered with the DVLA, or not registeted at all.

The local council has the legal right to clamp and remove vehicles parked illegally on local roads.

The can also remove vehicles whose owners have evaded parking tickets, or which are parked in dangerous locations.

Councillor Sophie Connelly, of Ipswich Borough Council, said:

“By clamping down on problem parking in our town, Ipswich Borough Council has been able to engage with motorists who repeatedly ignore or disregard parking restrictions.

“Illegal parking poses a road safety risk to road users and pedestrians. We hope that direct action to clamp or remove vehicles, will deter people from parking illegally in Ipswich as there are consequences for such actions.”
