Suffolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Tim Passmore, has called for fairer funding for the local police force.

This comes after Waveney MP, Peter Aldous, stood in the Commons earlier this week to ask Policing Minister, Chris Philp, about his progress in reviewing the police funding formula.

Although Mr Philp said the Government had been working hard to address the issue, Mr Aldous insisted the time it is taking is concerning, with Suffolk Police still expecting draft proposals for the review since January.

Mr Passmore said: “I am pleased that the policing minister Chis Philp acknowledges the need for a new police funding formula but to be honest, I am getting very impatient.

“We have been promised a review of the funding formula for some years now.”

According to the PCC, Suffolk police force would need an extra £4m each year just to equal Norfolk Constabulary’s funding — currently at £5 extra per person.

He added: “Suffolk Constabulary is a small force covering a large geographic area and we provide excellent value for money.

“But we are one of the lowest funded forces in the country and we need a fairer share of the policing budget.”
