Ipswich Borough Council has unveiled a plan to build an additional 300 affordable homes across four different sites in the town.

This comes on top of the 100 already completed over the past 100 years by the council's housebuilding company Handford Homes.

The plans would see sites Ravenswood, Bibb Way, Fore Hamlet and Hawke Road developed, with some of the first council homes ready to move into by 2024.

Work will start on Ravenwood and Bibb Way as soon as this month.

Councillor Neil MacDonald, of Ipswich Borough Council, said:

“The development of new affordable housing remains a priority for Ipswich Borough Council. I was delighted to be at the official opening of 16 flats in Grimwade Street recently, with residents very pleased with their new homes.

“Ipswich has an increasing demand for housing, and we’re pleased that over the next three years we will see a further 300 new homes being developed, so I’m looking forward to several more official openings.”
