Haverhill rogue trader handed suspended sentence and fined £10,000
He conned his customers out of £35,000
A landscape gardener from Suffolk has been handed a suspended prison sentence for conning his victims out of thousands of pounds.
35-year-old Adam Fox, of Primrose Hill, Haverhill, traded as Foxy Landscaping and Garden Maintenance and operated across Suffolk.
He was caught following an investigation by Suffolk Trading Standards.
He first came to the attention of the organisation after a consumer complained in June 2022 that they had paid a 50% deposit to Foxy Landscaping and Garden Maintenance; however no work had begun on the agreed start date, nor in the 6 months following that date.
Trading Standards then launched an investigation into Fox, during which statements were taken from 11 further victims who alleged that he had acted dishonestly by taking payment for his services but failing to complete the work.
Collectively the victims paid £35,000.
Although some were reimbursed with partial refunds, the total loss to the victims was £20,000.
At Ipswich Magistrates Court on Thursday February 27th Fox was given a 12 month prison sentence, suspended for 24 months.
He was also ordered to pay £10,000 in compensation to the victims and complete 120 hours of unpaid work and 15 days of rehabilitation activities.
