Grieving rat in Suffolk looking for a new best friend after brothers death
The RSCPA say Rocky is heartbroken.
A grieving rat left all alone after the sudden death of his brother and life-long companion is searching for a new best friend - and a new home.
One-year-old Rocky and his brother, Bruno, arrived in the RSPCA’s care in October after a member of the public found them abandoned in Woodbridge and took them to the centre.
The team at Martlesham Animal Centre - run by the RSPCA’s Suffolk Central Branch - took the pair in but, tragically, Bruno died suddenly on Monday (18 November) leaving Rocky all alone.
Animal Centre Manager Zoe Barrett said: “Rats are highly sociable and intelligent animals so Rocky is really struggling without his brother; he’s never been on his own before and it’s so sad to see him all alone.
“Rocky and Bruno would often be curled up together in their hammock and now he has to sleep alone.
“We’re desperately hoping to find him a loving new home with someone who has another male rat - or a group of male rats - for him to befriend.
“Although rats are highly social, great care has to be taken when introducing them, to make sure they don't fight before they get to know one another. We’d ideally like to find an owner who has experience introducing new rats before and understands how to do this in a positive way.”
Rocky would love to find a single male rat to become his new best friend or would suit joining a mischief of male rats who have a large enclosure with lots of enrichment.
