A painting, donated and created by Suffolk star Ed Sheeran, has helped raise £67,000 for the Cancer Campaign in Suffolk.

The total stood at £51,000 when the raffle closed but the charity says it's now shot up thanks to two "very generous donations" overnight.

The artwork, called Splash Planet, will be heading overseas to its new owner, Claire Faynor, in America.

The lucky winner was randomly drawn from thousands of people from all over the world after paying £20 for a raffle ticket.

In a video to support the CCiS’s fundraiser last month, Ed described the painting as "one of the big splashy ones" from the cover artwork for his single Afterglow and encouraged people to enter saying “it goes to a really fantastic cause and it's going to help a lot of people, so thank you very much".

The money raised means the charity can continue its work to raise awareness of cancer and take care of the wellbeing of the local community before, during and after cancer.

It also means other projects, which had been put on hold due to a lack of funds, can now go ahead.

Karen Hare, Chief Executive of CCiS said: "We have been overwhelmed and delighted by the support we have been given, both here and abroad and it's been absolutely fantastic to know that we have raised over £51,000 through tickets sales and donations.

"I’d like to thank everyone who has helped to make this possible .. you have been incredible. We couldn't have done any of this without the support of Ed and his team and the press, together with social media coverage, has been extraordinary.

"Over 28 days you've all contributed to ensuring we can continue to meet the needs of people in Suffolk and we look forward to your continued support."
