The NHS in the East of England has confirmed it is preparing for a surge in admissions due to the potential threat posed by Omicron.
It comes as we're set to find out more later about the severity of the Omicron variant.
The first major assessment from the UK Health Security Agency is due to be published, with data expected to outline how serious the strain is.
Yesterday, the UK recorded over 100,000 daily cases for the first time during the pandemic.
An NHS England spokesperson for our region told us: “In light of the potential threat posed by Omicron, it is right that the NHS prepares for any surge in hospital admissions. Hospitals are already putting measures in place, including by increasing bed capacity, and the single best thing the public can do to help is come forward and book their booster vaccine.”
Booster vaccines are available at centres all across our region, with many offering appointments and walk-in options.
