A West Mercia Police officer's been sentenced to 8 years in prison after a jury found him guilty of the manslaughter of the former Ipswich Town footballer.

Police first had contact with Dalian Atkinson outside a property on Meadow Close in Trench, Telford at around 1:30am on 15 August 2016.

They were initially responding to reports of a disturbance.

Mr Atkinson was later taken to hospital and pronounced dead later that morning.

Last week, a jury found PC Benjamin Monk not guilty of the former Premier League star's murder, but guilty of manslaughter, after a six-week trial.

He was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court today.
