A neighbourhood clean-up campaign has been launched by the new Green Mid Suffolk Council.

The ‘Pride in Your Place’ campaign is the first initiative launched by the UK’s first Green majority, achieved during the local elections earlier this year.

Cllr Tim Weller, the cabinet member for environment, culture and wellbeing, hopes this scheme will have a positive impact across the district.

He said: “Our teams work hard to maintain the district but together, we can do so much more.

“By joining forces and being proud of where we live, we can also send a clear message that there is no place for vandalism and illegal dumping in our communities.”

The council will give towns and villages across the district the opportunity to apply for projects “which improve the appearance and cleanliness of their community.”

This includes projects such as litter picking, graffiti removal, and maintenance of public spaces.

Under the scheme, funding will depend on the population size of parishes, with those having a population over 1,500 being eligible for £400 and those under getting up to £250.

Applications will be accepted on the council’s website until October 31, with payments being made within 21 days.
