A man's died following a serious crash in Ipswich.

It happened just after 4:30am yesterday (Sunday 21st April) at the Copdock roundabout.

Emergency services were called following reports that a fuel tanker travelling on the northbound A12 had overturned on the slip road to the roundabout.

Police, Suffolk Fire and Rescue, Highways England, National Highways, the Environment Agency and the East Anglian ambulance service all attended the scene, but the driver of the tanker, a man in his 50s, was sadly declared dead at the scene.

Police tell us, whilst formal identification is yet to take place, his next of kin is being kept informed of developments and supported by specialist officers.

The Copdock roundabout, and the A12 in both directions between J32B Capel St Mary and J55 of the A14, the Copdock Interchange, were closed all of yesterday, and into the early hours of this morning.

Suffolk Police confirmed the road reopened around 4:30 am today (Monday 22nd April).

Officers are now appealing for any witnesses to the collision and asking any motorists driving in the area at the time of the incident with a dashcam fitted in their vehicle, to review the footage for any material that may be of assistance.
