Christmas shoppers in Ipswich can enjoy free parking in the run-up to Christmas with the introduction of the ‘Festive Thursday’ offer.

The Crown Park is a multi-storey car park run by the Ipswich Borough Council, providing 536 spaces.

The ‘Festive Thursday’ offer will allow shoppers to leave their car for free after 2pm to enjoy late night shopping.

Usually, the car park price ranges from £1-£6.20, depending on the time of stay.

Councillor Sarah Barber, portfolio-holder for the town centre, said: “This offer will help retailers and other businesses in the run-up to Christmas. Free parking after 2 pm on these Thursdays will enable visitors to head to the town centre to shop local, enjoy a meal, go to the theatre, and keep a little extra for buying their festive treats.

As well as free parking, Ipswich Borough Council teamed up with Ipswich Central to organise free entertainment for the visitors.

During the first late night shopping Thursday, shoppers will be able to attend the performance by Fool’s Paradise, with their quirky street characters, The Living Lampposts. The characters will perform three sets during the evening at 4 pm, 5:30 pm and 7 pm.

The offer starts on 18 November and runs until 23 December.
