Police were called after two men went into a house on Mill Road South on Thursday 11th March at around 1.10pm.

The pair were discovered in the living room by the victim, who challenged them.

They claimed to be police officers investigating reports of suspicious persons in the garden, but when asked for identification became more threatening.

One of the offenders was brandishing a screwdriver and told the victim to be quiet, before they then left.

The police were called immediately and officers searched the local area, assisted by the police dog unit, no one was found.

The victim later discovered that jewellery and cash had been taken from a bedroom.

Police say four males were seen in the area, with the two inside the property described as being in their 20's or early 30's, of slight build, and under 6ft tall.

Detectives say this burglary is being linked to a similar incident reported 20 minutes earlier on the same day.

In that instance, the lock on a back gate of a home on Mayfield Road was broken, and the suspects got in to the home.

The victim was sleeping upstairs but when they heard noises in the spare room they called out, which is when the suspects left.

Nothing is believed to have been taken.

Officers are asking for anyone who saw anything relating to either of the incidents above to get in touch on 101.
