A Bury St Edmunds man has been jailed for two years and three months after attacking a man and a woman earlier this year.

25 year old Harry McMenamin of Cricks Road was convicted of actual bodily harm after the incident at a home in Abbeygate Street on New Years Day this year.

McMenamin has been drinking earlier with the male victim before the pair got into an argument.

He hit the man before trying to throw him out of a window. He then smashed the female victim’s flat door before punching and choking her.

DI Stu Dolan of Suffolk Constabulary said: “Whilst the male victim knew McMenamin as a friend, the female victim had only moved into the flat the day before the incident and had never met the defendant.

"The assault she faced would have been an extremely frightening and terrifying incident to experience for her, and one that I imagine will be very difficult for her to forget.”
