A Bury St Edmunds man has been jailed for three years after admitting to a string of motorbike thefts.
31 year old Ricky Davis of Maundy Close was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court yesterday after admitting to five counts of theft.
The offences happened in Bury and Brandon in 2020, with further thefts happening in Thetford and Bury last year.
The total value of the thefts was around £30,000.
Davis later spoke to officers on Suffolk Constabulary's Operation Converter team, which encourages suspects to admit to past offences so they can be released from prison with a 'clean sheet'.
He admitted a further 12 motor vehicle thefts when speaking to officers on the Op Conveter team.
Duncan Etchells of Suffolk Constabulry said: “Davis had a notable modus operandi of arranging to meet people who would travel from all over the country to sell their motorbikes after they’d advertised them online.
“Davis would then meet them, and under the pretence of taking the bike for a test ride would then ride off on the bike, never to be seen again.
"His crimes attracted a lot of social media attention in the Bury St Edmunds and Thetford areas over the period of his criminality, but to see him behind bars will hopefully give some closure for those people he stole from.
“This should also serve as a timely reminder to offenders in Suffolk that we will use any and all available investigative techniques to bring you to justice for all your offending.”
