Anti-litter campaigner in Suffolk urges people to pick up after themselves
Jason Alexander recently found a forty year old Coke can in the county
An anti-litter campaigner from Suffolk says more needs to be done to stop people littering in the county.
Jason Alexander runs the Vintage Litter Museum in Woodbridge – showcasing rubbish he’s found during litter picks and walks around the county - some of which is more than a hundred years old.
Recently, he found a Coke can that was nearly 40 years old, and says this should encourage people to do stop littering: "It's not until you start litter picking that you realise how much litter is actually around...
"I've done thousands of these for years - I'd love to say it's getting better, but it's really not.
"Every single time I find more rubbish it ties my stomach in knots."
Jason tells us he'd like to see better education on how littering impacts the environment: "All of these items, whether they're crisp packets, coffee cups, sweet wrappers, are going to hang around in the environment for years.
"They'll all have a bad effect on the environment."
He still remains optimistic things could change:
"We need to try and change our mentality - if we see a piece of litter on the ground, even if we didn't drop it, what's stopping us from picking it up? Leading by example?"
