As the festive season begins, an addiction support service in Suffolk wants those who are struggling with alcohol to have plans in place to help them through the Christmas period.

Turning Point in Ipswich say that for many the holiday season is synonymous with alcohol and there can often be a shift in mindset around this time, where we see people drinking where they typically wouldn't the rest of the year.

Nat Travis from the group said: "I understand this can be a difficult time for those who are not drinking."

"There are so many non-alcoholic options now, so if it does feel too tough and you're not quiet ready to reach out that could be a good option, you need to make sure that's an available option and you can access that."

Nat also explained there's power in asking for help and support and having someone you can talk to about your worries can help alleviate some of the stress involved:

"Having at least one person there who has an understanding of your situation and changes you are trying to make around your alcohol use can be that source of support for you."

"It's you, it's your right, it's your body and it's up to you. You can control what you can do, and be more assertive and if it's not working you can remove yourself from that situation.

"Your health and well-being and your goals and what you want to do is the most important thing."
