Drivers urged to plan ahead for A14 overnight closures in Suffolk
Highways England is coming to the end of its road upgrade works.
Drivers making essential journey's on the A14 in Suffolk this week are being advised to plan ahead by Highways England.
Overnight closures are going to be in place while a contraflow system, put in place so upgrade works could take place, is lifted.
Work to remove the contraflow system has come earlier than originally planned with Highways confirming they've reduced disruption from nine weeks to four.
The system will now be removed so new road markings, studs, and repairing parts of the A14 that could not be accessed while it was in place.
It means the eastbound carriageway will be closed overnight from 8pm until 6am on Wednesday 17th February.
The westbound carriageway will then be closed each night from 8pm until 6am from Thursday 18th February until Wednesday 24th February.
There will be overnight lane closures between Thursday 25 February to Wednesday 3 March to allow for the average speed camera equipment to be removed.
All work is subject to weather conditions.
What is the diversion route?
Drivers will be diverted off the A14 at junction 52, and onto the B1113, to then follow the B1113 onto Swan Hill, to then take Chapel Lane onto London Road, follow London Road to then take the A12 and re-join the A14 at junction 55.
When the westbound carriageway is closed traffic will follow the same diversion in reverse.
Long distance traffic is being urged to use alternative routes further from the work, with the use of electronic signs, which provide drivers with suitable diversions and comparative journey time information.
