24 people have been arrested during a week long operation targeting 'county lines' drug dealing across Suffolk.

Drugs, weapons, cash and weapons were also recovered during a series of raids between October 3 and 10.

Officers worked with the National Crime Agency and National Police Chief's Council, as police forces across the country ramped up action against suspected dealers.

County lines usually involves criminals using mobile phones to organise deliveries from major cities, with young people often used to transport the drugs.

In a practice known as 'cuckooing', dealers will take over someone's home and use it as a location to sell drugs.

More than five kilograms of Class A and B drugs were found during the week, as well as 200 tablets believed to be Class A or Class B controlled drugs.

£7,095 cash was seized, along with 21 mobile phones.

Two men were arrested after weapons including knives, an imitation handgun and a baseball bat were found in a vehicle.

Suspects were also questions on suspicion of money laundering, handling stolen goods, being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs, driving offences, and possession with intent to supply.

Along with action against suspected criminals, officers also visited local schools and businesses to talk about county lines.

The also worked with taxi companies and local hotels to help them identify young people who may be at risk of being exploited by drug dealers.

Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner Tim Passmore said: “The threat to society from the illegal drugs business is huge - it wrecks lives, and whole communities are affected.

"Sadly, the drug barons often prey on individuals who are at risk and very vulnerable, which is absolutely despicable.

“I would like to congratulate the officers involved in this impressive campaign. The results speak for themselves and build on the excellent work already being done.

"That said, there is no room for complacency, and I can assure everyone I will do everything possible to provide the resources necessary to try and eliminate this problem from our county.

“There should be no tolerance by anyone for this illicit trade.”
