Three Cheshire Police buildings to shut after consultation
Buildings in Lymm, Middlewich and Winsford will shut
Cheshire police say they're going to shut three of their buildings across the county in a bid to save £100,000 per year.
Buildings in Lymm, Middlewich and Winsford will shut after a consultation.
Cheshire police say the money saved will be re-invested back into front line policing.
Earlier this year Cheshire Constabulary launched a public consultation in relation to the proposed sale of three police buildings in Lymm, Middlewich and Winsford.
More than 150 responses were received during the consultation, with 49 per cent of respondents in favour of the proposals, compared to 44 per cent who were against the plans, and seven per cent who were neutral.
Following the consultation, it has now been confirmed that the plan to sell the three buildings will go ahead, saving the force approximately £100,000 per year in maintenance and utilities costs, which will be reinvested into front line policing.
A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who took part in the consultation and again reassure residents that these plans will have no impact on day-to-day policing in our local communities.
“Over the past 30 years, the way we police has changed greatly, and the buildings we are looking to sell are no longer fit for purpose.
“None of the buildings are currently used as working stations, and their sale will have no impact on response times for officers attending incidents.
“The buildings do not have public helpdesks, and while Winsford and Middlewich do have contact points outside the premises, these are used very rarely, with most residents now preferring to report incidents online or via telephone.
“The savings from the running of these buildings can now be reinvested into front line policing.”
