A new CT scanner is set to be installed at Bassetlaw Hospital in a bid to cut waiting times.
NHS England is putting £1.8m towards the new equipment, which is due to arrive next year.
The machine will be housed in a dedicated suite and will help boost the reliability of the service.
At the moment Bassetlaw's single CT scanner has to undergo routine maintenance, meaning patients have to be transferred to Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
A new machine will ensure one is always available at Bassetlaw, while also allowing medics to offer an additional 500 appointments a year.
Sara Elliott, Head of Radiography at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals, said: “We want patients attending the service to be treated as quickly as possible."
"Having an additional scanner will enable us to have resilience within the service, providing greater continuity of service.
“We estimate that routine maintenance and equipment failures of the current single machine costs the service around 230 hours of downtime each year.
"The additional capacity will allow us to offer approximately 500 extra appointments annually, significantly benefiting our patients.”
