A dog who ran off scared from a crash on the M1 in South Yorkshire over the weekend is now back home, safe and well.

German Shepherd Athena was in one of two cars involved in the smash near Junction 33 at 6:45pm on Saturday (March 15).

She was in the car with two other dogs, one of whom was sadly killed.

Athena bolted and couldn't be found for several days, but was then located in the Wickersley area of Rotherham by horse riders.

Her owners were able to get to the scene and were then reunited with their pet.

A driver, who failed a roadside breath test, has been arrested.
