Ground has been broken at a 'state of the art' new police custody suite in Chesterfield.

The purpose-built facility in Dunston will serve the entire north of Derbyshire, with 36 cells, interview and consultations rooms as well as bail facilities.

There will also be a virtual court to allow suspects to appear via videolink, as well as a larger charge area and specially designed process rooms.

The main structure is due to be completed by next year, with the building fully finished by mid-2027.

Once completed it'll take over from the current custody suite in Ripley.
