Drinkers in South Yorkshire urged to 'treat alcohol with respect' over the festive period
Alcohol harm charity Drinkaware reckon nearly two-thirds of UK drinkers plan to have more booze over Christmas
People across South Yorkshire & North Derbyshire are being encouraged to 'treat alcohol with respect' over the upcoming festive period.
A new survey has found nearly 65% of UK drinkers plan to have more booze over Christmas than they typically would at any other time of year.
Rob Sewell is from the Eleven Drug & Alcohol Recovery Service in Sheffield - He says it's not worth overdoing it:
"Some of these consequences, like making a fool of yourself at the office party or having an accident and ending up in A & E can be just the start of a downward spiral for many.
"Ask yourself, is it time to start actually speaking out to people who're close to you, who may have been able to control or stop drinking their selves?
"Is it time to start having an honest conversation with yourself and others about your own drinking habits?
"People believe that they're going to have a good time with their family and friends, but a lot of people are unable to control the amount they have to drink once they've started."
