Teenager dies after car hits wall during police chase in Sheffield

Officers say they have referred themselves to the IOPC over the incident

A teenager has died after a Police chase in Sheffield.

Police say they were on a pre-planned operation in the city when they came across a car they believe had been stolen.

Then they followed the car as it tried to flee the scene. It crashed into a wall and an 18-year old- man later died due to his injuries.

The force have referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct over the incident.

South Yorkshire Police have said:

"We’re appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident with information, dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward. Officers are particularly interested in anyone who may have been in the City Road, Park Grange Road, Spring Lane and Northern Avenue areas.

"If you can help, you can pass information to police online or by calling 101. Please quote incident number 367 of 23 December 2024 when you get in touch."
