This First Minister visited the Mayhill Community Centre to meet users of the ‘pop-up’ warm hub, which opens every Thursday afternoon.

The Welsh Government says they provide funding to support the provision of spaces within the community "where people of all ages can go to access services and advice, to help them deal with debt issues and ensure they are claiming their entitlements; combat loneliness and isolation; try new activities or learn new skills; or simply get a warm cup of tea with company".

The First Minister says a £1.5m in additional funding has been included in the draft 2025-26 budget to continue to support the provision of safe and warm places within local communities.

The Welsh Government says:

"This is not just about winter support, but about supporting year-round provisions.

"The spaces are designed to be open to everyone in the community, where people of all ages can go to access services and advice, participate in social activities or simply get a warm cup of tea with company".

The Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Jane Hutt announced the additional funding on the 17th of January.

“This funding will mean that people across Wales can continue to access warm, welcoming spaces in their local communities.

"Warm hubs are about people helping people...

"... whether it’s practical advice or a friendly chat, these spaces are open to people of all ages and provide something invaluable to everyone who walks through the door.”

Whilst visiting the warm hub in Mayhill, Eluned Morgan told us spaces like warm hubs are vital to helping people in need.

"We know people are are really struggling with the cost of living crisis-

and so we wanted to make sure that there was an opportunity for people who may find it difficult to heat their homes".

"This community centre is a really fantastic place, people are getting huge support here."
