People in South Wales are being urged to prepare for some potentially heavy downpours and high winds as Storm Bert begins battering parts of the UK.

The arrival of the storm has triggered a multitude of weather warnings across the country.

It's already causing travel disruption with the Severn Bridge closed in both directions due to wind speeds.

Transport for Wales has also shut a number of its rail lines this weekend due to the forecasts.

Some bus replacements are in operation but the advice is to check before travelling.

In South Wales a yellow warning for rain is in force all day Saturday and into Sunday morning with forecasters warning of potential travel disruption and flooding.

More than 100mm of rainfall could be seen on some higher ground this weekend.

The Met Office says some communities could find themselves cut off, with spray and flooding leading to difficult driving conditions.

There's also the potential of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses.

People are being reminded that floodwater can pose a danger to life, with some homes and businesses facing damage as the Storm hits this weekend.

A yellow warning for wind has also been issued for areas including Cardiff and Swansea.

The Met Office is warning it could cause some dangerous coastal conditions with a slight chance of some damage to buildings as tiles blow from roofs.

Gusts of more than 70mph should be expected in some areas.
