Thor the walrus spotted in Iceland after leaving Hampshire
A walrus that attracted large crowds in Hampshire last December appears to have arrived in Iceland
Nicknamed Thor, the hefty mammal was spotted on Calshot beach in Hampshire, before spending New Year in Scarborough and heading 70 miles further north to Blyth, Northumberland.
The walrus was reported to be in BreiðdalsvÃk, Iceland, on Friday.
British Divers Marine Life Rescue said it could match the pale patches on the animal's foreflippers with pictures taken in Scarborough.
"After Thor's visit to the UK we wondered if we would ever see him again," a spokesman said.
"We are delighted to have been informed that he is in Iceland."
Fully grown Atlantic walruses can weigh up to 908 kg (2,000 lb) and reach lengths of up to 2.4 m (8 ft).
