A weather warning for strong winds is in force for the south.

High winds may cause some travel disruption and damage, the Met Office said.

The yellow warning is in place until 6.00pm on Saturday.

Rail passengers faced disruption with trees and obstructions on the tracks.

South Western Railway said the line at Branksome in Poole was blocked because of a gazebo.

Fallen trees blocked the lines at Botley and Brockenhurst.

The south's emergency services said they were receiving many calls about trees down.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue urged people to only call if someone was trapped or if it was a dangerous situation, where tree had fallen onto a building or power cables.

Yellow wind warning - what to expect:

  • Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible.
  • Some damage to trees, temporary structures and buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen.
  • Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible.
  • Some roads and bridges may close.
  • Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.
  • Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.
