Last updated 27th Sep 2022
Plans have been unveiled to revamp a busy part of Southampton.
Council bosses want to reduce the amount of traffic going through Portswood - with the aim of making it safer and more attractive.
That could mean buses given priority, and better facilities for cycling, walking and e-scooters.
A consultation is underway.
The proposed improvements will focus on three areas:
- Portswood Broadway
- Highfield Lane/St Denys Road
- Lodge Road/Portswood Road junction.
Residents will receive a letter which will detail how to take part in the survey.
There will also be a Consultation Event at October Books on Tuesday 4th October where they can feedback on the proposals in person.
The survey runs until Sunday 23rd October.
Councillor Eamonn Keogh, Cabinet Member for Transport and District Regeneration comments:
“I am really pleased with these ambitious proposals for Portswood which will not only improve road safety and reduce bus journey times, but will also improve connectivity to and from the city to the District Centre and so make our neighbourhoods enjoyable places to live, work, study and spend time.
"I am looking forward to working with communities to understand what residents and visitors think of the proposals to help shape the regeneration of this District Centre.
"These improvements will be supported by the upgrading of traffic signals on Thomas Lewis way which will improve journey times for motorists on this key route into and out of the City.
"As a Labour administration we are determined to improve your journey, however you travel throughout the City, whether walking, cycling, scooting or driving.”
