The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) is continuing to work through the Covid-19 pandemic and is looking for our help with fundraising to keep services going.

They're asking supporters to complete a 3, 5 or 10 mile walk, locally to home, this weekend (30th/31st January.)

The challenge comes after the charity edges ever closer to completing its 10,000th mission since the began operations in 2007.

The charity is looking for our support while we might be doing our lockdown exercise

HIOWAA Chief Executive Officer, Alex Lochrane, said:

"Right now, everyone needs something to strive for, and a goal to go for, and I really hope that launching Miles for Missions will encourage our supporters to raise vital funds for us. Approaching 10,000 flights is a tremendous achievement and is testament to the hard work of so many people, day after day. Most importantly, it reminds me of the dedication and generosity we are shown - day after day - by our local communities; none of what we do would be possible without their support."

It's been a busy tme for the helicopter and their rapid response cars.

During the pandemic, they've been carrying out their normal missions, as well as working with the South Central Ambulance Service, the Royal Air Force and Maritime and Coastguard Agency, to help relieve pressure on Intensive Care Units where needed.

Only 2019 was busier for HIOWAA, showing just how important our fundraising is to support them

If you want to get involved in the 'Miles for Missions' challenge on the weekend of the 30th January, you can sign up through the HIOWAA website.

Registration is £10 per person, and everyone who raises more than £25 in sponsorships will get a T-shirt from the charity.

All those taking part are also asked to follow social distancing and travel restrictions.
