A man from Southampton, who was pursued for 30 miles by police from Wilton through Salisbury, has been banned from driving for a year.

Anthony Waters, of Mansel Road West, Southampton, was sentenced at Salisbury Crown Court to a suspended eight-month prison term after being charged with Careless Driving, Failing to Stop and Drug Driving.

The court heard that Waters, 54, drove above the speed limit, ignored red lights and even strayed onto the wrong side of the road during the chase on 29th May 2023.

When officers arrested him, he was found to be over the Drug Drive Limit.

Detective Sergeant Brewster said: “Anthony Waters drove in an extremely careless manner and showed no regard for other road users. It was fortunate that nobody was injured or worse, killed, as a result of his selfish actions.”

After his 12-month ban from driving is complete, Waters must take an extended re-test before he can get his licence back, as well as attend 30 rehabilitation activity days and pay a £187 surcharge.
