Vulnerable people in Chichester will be able to have meals delivered to their doors as part of a new lunch club being launched on Friday (February 5th).

The Friday Lunch Club has been set up to support the city's older and lonely people.

Teams will be giving out free hot two-course lunches in line with Covid-19 guidance.

Those taking part in the scheme are being asked to make a voluntary donation to either Chichester Cathedral or the Pallant House Gallery.

The scheme has been set up by the Sussex Pub Group, which runs six venues across West Sussex, including the Purchases restaurant and the Pallant House Gallery café in the city.

Nick Sutherland, the Sussex Pub Group's director, said they aimed to deliver more than just food with the scheme:

"There are other organisations out there that are doing the frozen cottage pie that you can put in the oven, but we wanted to give people a bit of an experience.

"The idea is that, within the meal, there's a bit about the people who prepared the meal and a little more about what's going on, just to give them something to read and to engage with.

"If people are on their own, it's very easy from them to forget and not really have the enthusiasm to cook a proper meal for themselves.

"We've had some fantastic enquiries - people telling us they're so looking forward to this."

Details of how to book, and the meals that are currently on offer, can be found on the Sussex Pub Group website.
