Knife crime in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight has more than doubled over the past decade.

There were more than 1,200 crimes involving a blade last year - up from 551 in 2013.

Hampshire Police say 'reducing knife crime remains a top priority'.

It comes as the government's announced plans to ban some machetes and zombie knives.

Criminals who buy or sell them could face up to two years in jail.

Certain types of the blades which are designed to look menacing and with the intention to threaten are not currently prohibited but would be outlawed under the measures.

A seven-week consultation on the proposals is now underway.
