An investigation has been launched after two police officers were injured when they were hit by a car while attending a collision on the M27 near Portsmouth.

Police were called shortly after 10.00am on Tuesday to a report of a single-vehicle crash on the eastbound carriageway between Junctions 11 and 12.

Whilst at the scene, a second collision occurred involving three vehicles, a white Audi A3, a silver Toyota Yaris and white Mitsubishi Outlander.

It led to two police officers suffering injuries.

One of the occupants of the cars was seriously injured.

Both officers and the occupant of the car were taken to hospital for treatment.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: "Enquiries are ongoing into the exact circumstances of the collision.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who has information, particularly anyone with dash cam footage, which can assist our enquiries."
