HMV is set to make a return to Southampton - and will be on the city's high street before Christmas.

The entertainment firm left its Above Bar store in 2018, amid a period of great uncertainty for the retailer which subsequently entered administration.

Now, it will move into the former Argos store on 173-178 High Street, near the Bargate, following an extensive fit out of the site.

Developers Trinity Rose Commercial have said the HMV Vault store will cover more than 23,000 square feet of retail space and will sell CDs, DVDs, Blu-Rays and vinyls, among other items.

Jeremy Braybrooke, director of Trinity Rose, said:

"HMV Vault aims to provide a dedicated entertainment store covering every element of its offering under one roof.

"This is a multi-million-pound investment in the city centre and is a significant success for Southampton.

"We’re sure this will be an asset that will please the city’s shoppers as they welcome a familiar retail face back to the high street.’
